Enhancing Citizen Journalists’ Understanding of International Humanitarian Law
As part of the “Baynetna: Dialogue & More” project, a group of citizen journalists recently participated in an intensive training on International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
The training covered key aspects of IHL, including its definition, objectives, historical evolution, and fundamental principles. Participants also explored key protocols and agreements that shape humanitarian law. To bring theory into practice, the sessions featured interactive activities and creative theatrical exercises, allowing journalists to apply legal concepts in engaging and practical ways.
This training is a crucial step in strengthening journalists’ understanding of humanitarian values and legal frameworks governing conflicts. By equipping them with this knowledge, they are better prepared to produce responsible and impactful media content that upholds ethical standards.
“Baynetna: Dialogue and More” is a project implemented by UTOPIA Association in partnership with DW Akademie Middle East / North Africa, and funded by German Cooperation. It aims to empower citizen journalists in marginalized areas of North Lebanon, Akkar, and Bekaa through providing comprehensive training and support to facilitate the creation of diverse dialogue formats tailored to the specific contexts of these regions.
