As part of the ongoing activities under the “Baynetna: Dialogue and More” project, UTOPIA Association organized a powerful community dialogue session in Shaqdouf, Akkar, titled: “Between Trends and Tolerance: Are Our Children Victims of Online Content?”.

The session brought together 23 women, most of whom were mothers, for an open discussion on the rising influence of digital content on children and adolescents.

Digital Parenting in a Hyperconnected World

Facilitated by citizen journalists, the session provided a safe space for participants to reflect on the responsibility of parents in digital awareness, and to explore the challenges they face in navigating their children’s relationship with technology.

The discussion covered key topics such as:

  • The psychological and behavioral impact of online trends and social media

  • How to foster open communication between parents and children

  • Recognizing harmful digital content and setting boundaries

  • Strategies for building a safe and healthy digital environment at home

Empowering Mothers to Lead Digital Awareness

The session emphasized that parental guidance and involvement are essential in helping children build resilience against inappropriate or misleading online content. Through collective discussion and experience-sharing, participants identified practical tools for digital parenting and strengthening family bonds.

“Baynetna: Dialogue and More” is a project implemented by UTOPIA Association in partnership with DW Akademie Middle East / North Africa, and funded by German Cooperation. It aims to empower citizen journalists in marginalized areas of North Lebanon, Akkar, and Bekaa through providing comprehensive training and support to facilitate the creation of diverse dialogue formats tailored to the specific contexts of these regions.
